The two joinings are taught in Lesson 05 and on the front page; nothing else joins.
Settled: two roots may be joined in exactly two ways, and both were settled elsewhere. There is no third way, and no compound word exists.
| Joining | Means | Where it was settled |
|---|---|---|
| des-uan, du-des-uan | eleven, twenty-one | numbers.md |
| anak-anak, dom-dom | children, houses | plural.md |
What the corpus actually contains
Every hyphenated form in the repository is collected and counted by
check.py on every run, so this page cannot fall behind the
corpus — it did once, by one form, when three texts were written after it.
There are 37, and every single one is a number or a reduplicated plural:
- 17 number shapes: des-du, du-des, ba-des, du-sen, du-mila …
- 20 reduplications: anak-anak, ain-ain, doktor-doktor, hora-hora …
- nothing else.
File names are not counted. surat-por-mama and anak-katab are hyphenated because file names are, and they are not forms of the language.
Not one compound word has ever been formed. The language has no airport, no bookshop, no railway — no word built out of two words.
What has been called compounding is not compounding
The front page explained the 300-root target by saying compounding did the rest, and text 6 called mesin ambil foto korpo anak “the compounding the design was betting on”. Both were corrected; this page was the reason, and it is the last page still describing the old state as the present one, until September 5, 2026. That sentence means a machine takes a picture of the child’s body, and it does say X-ray without a new root — but it is a sentence, not a word. Nothing was formed. What carried it was the possession rule and a verb.
That distinction matters for the vocabulary argument. Three hundred roots go further than three hundred words because things can be described with what is already there, not because new words can be built. Description is a weaker claim than word-formation, and it is the true one.
Open questions
- Does the language form compound words at all? It never has. The front page leaned on the idea that it does until this page was written, and says the opposite now. The decision has two hard parts. First, juxtaposition is already taken: foto korpo cannot mean “body-photo” as one word, because the possession rule already makes it “the body’s picture”. Second, the hyphen is already doing two jobs, and a third would make des-uan, anak-anak and a compound three unrelated things wearing one mark. Whatever the answer, it decides how far 300 roots really reach, so it belongs with the A2 briefing. Found by scanning every hyphen in the repository after noticing that “compounding” appeared four times and had no page.
