Building a sentence

The README already gives the pattern:

Mi ama dunia. — I love the world.

Subject, then verb, then object. Every sentence below uses that same shape — nothing new is being introduced.

AmaduniaEnglish
Mi kula pan.I eat bread.
Yu mau akua.You want water.
Ta go dom.She goes home.
Kita lai dom.We come home.
Mi beri pan.I give bread.
Ta mau ca.He wants tea.

Notice what did not happen: the verb never changed. Mi kula, yu kula, ta kula, kita kula — one form, always.

Notice something else missing. There is no word for a and none for the. pan is bread, a bread or the bread, and which one it is comes from the situation, the way it does in Russian, Turkish, Hindi, Indonesian, Chinese and Swahili. You will see the same noun translated both ways throughout this course. That is not sloppiness — it is the rule.

Asking

Lesson 1 asked a question by tone alone: Ok? The same works with a full sentence.

— Yu mau akua? — Ya, mi mau akua.

— Yu mau ca? — Ya! Mi mau ca.

— Yu mau pan? — No, bas.

bas closes things politely: enough, that’s all, stop.

Describing

Sol hao. Akua hao. Dom hao.

Practice

Say each aloud, then cover the English.

  1. Mi mau pan. — I want bread.
  2. Ta lai dom. — She comes home.
  3. Kita kula una. — We eat together.
  4. Sol hao! — The sun is good!
  5. Yu beri akua? — Will you give water?

What you can already say

Two lessons, 40 roots — nineteen taught in these two lessons and the other twenty-one the numbers and first words on the front page. You can greet someone, ask their state, say what you want, eat, come, go, give, and call something good. No tense, no agreement, no gender has been needed yet.

That count read “about twenty words” until September 5, 2026, counting only the two word tables while every other lesson counts what the learner knows. It was the one lesson using its own convention, and the one whose figure nothing checked, because the check reads a number that follows the word lessons.

Past and future are covered in Lesson 4, plurals in Lesson 5, questions in Lesson 7.
