What changed since the first story

The first story had 113 roots and could not say “and”, “not”, “again” or where anything was. This one has all four, and the difference shows most in the last line. Mi-mi suda lihat mi-mi — “we saw us” — was impossible before; the pronoun plural did not exist.

Aur sukut lai is the sentence the first story could not have written at all: it needs aur for the join and sukut for a thing that is an absence.

What the language still could not say

  1. No mark for a name. Sol genc is “Sol is young” and “the sun is young”, because sol is also the word for sun. Luma is likewise the word for light. The story leans on capital letters, which help a reader and do nothing for a listener. Whether Amadunia wants a particle before a name, or a rule that names are simply learned, is undecided.

  2. No “never”. Luma should be able to say “I will never forget this morning”. no saufa unut is “will not forget”, which is weaker and not the same.

  3. No ordinal. “The first morning” and “the second morning” cannot be told apart from “one morning” and “two mornings”.

  4. No reflexive. The last line, Mi-mi suda lihat mi-mi, works only because the plural pronoun repeats. “I saw myself” would be Mi suda kan mi, which reads as “I saw me” and is not clearly reflexive.

Gaps 2, 3 and 4 are on the open list already. Gap 1 is new, and it is the largest thing the language has been missing without noticing.
